i lied

Here I am, writing again, unhappy with my last post. (Who knows how many "last posts" will actually be published).

I'm skipping the past and focusing on the present; the positive and happy things that make our lives exciting, here and now:

1. Maya had a food challenge with soy at the allergist. I was so nervous, having recurring nightmares about that day last June when it happened and praying that the day wouldn't end in the hospital with her on a breathing machine. To make things extra special, this appointment was scheduled on my birthday. So we spent 3 hours at the allergist watching Elmo, Dora and Elmo again. All my fears were put to rest the first ten minutes when they rubbed her lips with soy milk and nothing happened. Right then, I felt calm and knew that she would give me the best birthday present ever: soy milk! It might seem silly that I am so thrilled and excited about this, but when your child is so limited and deprived with what they can eat (and let me tell you, soy is in everything) any allergy elimination is a day to be celebrated, and it just happened that we did for my birthday. There are so many new foods that are available to Maya now that we couldn't even look at before and this makes us so happy and very hopeful that her other allergies will be outgrown. We are now the proud consumers of all things soy: milk, yogurt, ice cream, oreos and more.

2. March Madness is here. My bracket is doing well (so far). Spring is in the air. The pool is warm. Spring training is happening 5 minutes away and Maya won over a Cubs player who threw her a ball and made her dad the proudest dad in the world. Nervous about the 83 degree weather in March and hoping we survive through the summer.

3. Maya is getting a roommate in October. I don't think she's very excited and already says "no" every time we ask her about it. I think she thinks the baby is my belly button because she'll point to it and say "hi baby, I'm Maya." I've also caught her talking to her own belly button baby. I actually can't believe she is 2. It's a strange feeling. She definitely keeps me on my feet all day everyday and really is the sweetest girl. Here she is at the allergist, on her new bike, enjoying her new table and blowing out her candle.

farewell again for now...

is maya allergic to almonds? i am in the process of going vegan and i have discovered almond milk--unflavored, not vanilla. it is so good! they even make almond milk yogurt!

good luck with the allergy journey. my sister has celiac disease and it is manageable but such a pain!
